Atomic Speedway Issues Schedule Update Ahead of Buckeye Spring 50

Atomic Speedway owner Charlie Vest went live on the track’s Facebook page Monday afternoon to provide an update on this weekend’s events, next week’s Blue Collar Racing Series kickoff, and ongoing track prep leading into the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Buckeye Spring 50 on Friday, March 27th.

Due to last week’s near‑daily rain and the lack of drying weather in the current forecast, Atomic has postponed this Saturday’s Gladiator Ice Breaker. A makeup date has not yet been announced. Vest explained that the track surface and grounds are simply too soft to recover in time, noting that once the base gets saturated without sun or wind to help it rebound, there’s no realistic way to get it back into racing condition by the weekend.

As of now, Wednesday’s Blue Collar Racing Series opener on March 18th is still on, but Vest made it clear that the show is subject to cancellation if the weather takes a turn for the worse in the days leading up to it. If the forecast deteriorates, the track will shift all focus toward preparing for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

Track prep is already underway. Vest said the crew will be digging the surface up, picking it apart, and packing it back down to ensure the best possible racing surface for the Buckeye Spring 50. He acknowledged that the last time Lucas Oil visited, the track got rough in spots. Something some drivers liked and others notably didn’t, and emphasized that the goal this time is to keep the surface rolling smoother throughout the night.

One important update for fans and teams alike: Atomic plans to leave the track widened for the season, a change that was pushed for by Devin Moran ahead of last year’s “The Night the Stars Come Out” Saturday show. The wider surface should provide more room to race and more options as the night goes on.

Vest stressed that all efforts will turn toward ensuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event runs as scheduled. The Buckeye Spring 50 is one of Atomic’s marquee shows of the year, and the track is committed to giving the series the best surface they can.
